FUNDACION FUTUROS VALORES DE BARRANQUILLA

Located on the Caribbean Coast, Barranquilla is the fourth largest Colombian City. In the last twelve years, the expellee population in search of refuge in the slums of Barranquilla has increased tremendously. The miserable living conditions of many families has led to a growing number of children on the street looking for small earnings. They may eventually become real street children. In 1991 the Fundacion Futuros Valores (FFV) of Barranquilla started the operation of the Casa-Hogar, a home for there of street children, with a capacity for 25 youngsters. Since January 1997, they are able to receive 40 children.

In January 1998 the FFV started the operation of a new center for street children. It serves as a bridge between the street and the Casa-Hogar and accommodates 20 children who have spent much time on the streets. It offers them primary care, ranging from psychological attention to medical services. The goal of this care center is to prepare them to start their educational and reintegration process. The Limmat Foundation supported the financing of the installation and the equipment.
