HISTORY OF THE FOUNDATION
The Barranquilla Futuros Valores Foundation - FUNDACION FUTUROS VALORES (FFVB) is an non-profit private NGO, which goes back to the year 1990. It was created by Socorro Gracia de Velez and Guillermo Sierra P., who are concerned about the welfare of minors in town.
The Foundation was granted legal status on September 27, 1991 by the Colombian Family Welfare Institute, a Government Organization that authorizes and supervises the performance of organizations dealing with minors and the family. Immediately after, a Home was opened on Carrera 37 at No. 54-97. We rented this location until October 1995. Later on, we moved to Street 70 No. 38-54, where we currently reside. We should mention that as of June 1996, we also occupied the neighboring house at the corner of Carrera 38B No. 69D-97 thereby increasing our coverage from 26 to 40 spaces, which we currently have. In July 15, 1998, the “THE DIVINE WILL” TEMPORARY HOME was opened as a Welcome and Reception Stages to the FOUNDATION Program.
Over the years, our services to minors improved in all aspects. The initial concept or objective to attend to “From-the-Street” minors was enlarged to “On-the-Street” abused, mistreated, displaced and at moral and/or physical risk children. Children who are admitted to the Institution receive the following services:
Family, Psychological, Nutritional, Medical, Dental, Substance abuse, Spiritual and Academic Assessment. Adequate food, recreation, spiritual training, and the follow-up of each assessment.
Mrs. Alba Stella Velez Gracia is Chair of the Board of Directors and Legal Representative. Our immediate goal is to acquire a lot and build the Home. Our mid-term goals include the opening of a Dining-Hostel for both sexes as a contact stage, and the Women’s Home.
We invite you to be part of the Foundation, which is also yours, and to share with us the joy of serving, giving a grain of love to street children, and becoming aware of them being also part of the marvelous work of Creation, a present form our Heavenly Father to his most beloved children. Remember that only GOD and LOVE can repair lives ruined by violence, and we may be the instruments.
