Next visit to your dentist, help an orphan in Odessa
Children's orphanage four tends to over four hundred street children and orphans. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the conditions of orphanages in Ukraine have steadily declined. As required by law, the orphanage has a dental clinic. Only one part time dentist manages this dental clinic. The dental facilities are antiquated. There are no hand instruments, no dental supplies, and no high-speed hand pieces or equipment. Tooth extraction is routine. No preventative measures are ever provided.
The lone onsite dentist reports that she was provided a total of $30 for supplies in the year 1999.
How You Can Help
We are asking people to help us provide dental supplies, particularly preventive dental supplies. These dental supplies would be used to help bring the dental clinic to minimum Western European standards of services.
On your next visit to the dentist explain that you want to help a orphanage dental clinic in Ukraine, and simply ask your dentist for the following items:
- fluoride
- prophy paste
- isposable prophy cups
In addition hand instruments such as:
- mouth mirrors
- explorers
- curettes
- scalers are non-existent and desperately needed.
Often dentists throw away these hand instruments if they are the least bit damaged. Dentists here may use these damaged hand instruments.
